The attack on privacy gets more vicious every time....

Quote:

It's only days before the Senate votes on its version of CISPA, and the SECURE IT Act. The bill would open all your data up to the government, no matter how personal. Good bye privacy, hello police state. Since the vote is soon, anything we do at this point has a big impact, so if you care about your privacy, stand with us and take these actions:

The first thing you can do is change your Facebook cover photo to show your friends the creepy records government will be keeping on us if CISPA passes.

There's another thing you can do to send your message even stronger. Visit a Senator's office and deliver this explanation of how CISPA and SECURE IT would trample our privacy, or mail it in if you can't visit in person. Tons of people will be doing this. It's the best way we can educate our senators; a disturbing number of them don't really understand what they're about to vote on.

GOP Spokesperson: "Lets Hurl Some Acid" at Female Dems

Hmmmm....

Quote:

Keep this story in mind if anyone suggests it is hyperbolic to call the political right in this country the American Taliban. Jay Townsend, campaign spokesman for Rep. Nan Hayworth (R, NY) responded to a question from a constituent about gas prices that was critical of his boss by suggesting the answer was to "hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators."

For real.

It gets better. I mean worse. The comment was made on a Facebook page called NY 19 U.S. House of Representatives Discussion Center. The site encourages "civil multi-partisan discussion about issues impacting citizens of New York's U.S. House District represented by Republican Congresswoman Nan Hayworth."

Here's the comment:

Quote:

Listen to Tom. What a little bee he has in his bonnet. Buzz Buzz. My question today … when is Tommy boy going to weigh in on all the Lilly Ledbetter hypocrites who claim to be fighting the War on Women? Let's hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won't abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector.
I can't imagine that is the kind of "civil" exchange of thoughts the creators of the discussion page had in mind. It would be bad enough if that kind of comment came from a private citizen. But let's be honest. We've all read the comment section of internet posts and inflammatory comments are common. But this came directly from the campaign, from the spokesman of a sitting Representative in response to a question about gas prices that also was critical of current leadership.

This is the leadership of American right at its most naked anti-woman core. And there's no sign its changing anytime soon

Pennsylvania County GOP elects White Supremacist to committee

Bah....

Quote:

Republicans in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania [population 320,000] have elected Steve Smith, a white supremacist, with close ties to neo-Nazi groups, to the county's GOP Committee.

The elections took place in late April and were certified by the GOP committee two weeks ago. Smith notified supporters of his victory last week by posting a message to the online forum WhiteNewsNow.com.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has documented Smith's participation with known skinhead organizations like Keystone State Skinheads, [now Keystone United] which he co-founded in 2001

In March 2003, he and two other KSS members were arrested in Scranton for beating up Antoni Williams, a black man, using stones and chunks of pavement. Smith pleaded guilty to terrorist threats and ethnic intimidation and received a 60-day sentence and probation.

The news on the site generated this response from a fellow reader:

CONGRATULATIONS, SIR! This may seem like just a small step now, but this is how we are taking our nation back and it's how we will secure a future for our people. Everyone needs to look to Steve's example. He's a true patriot!

Nazi Naming Parents Don't Get Kids Back.

They were the subject of a thread a while back.

Quote:

The New Jersey couple who gave their children Nazi-inspired names failed in their most recent attempt to regain custody of their children, according to various reports.

The decision was first reported by the Star-Ledger which said Heath Campbell, the father of Adolf Hitler, 6, Honszlynn Hinler Jenna, 6, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation, 5, and Hons, who was born last November, told the publication that he wasn't getting his kids back.
And it apparently was due to domestic violence, not the names. The parents are also no longer together. They really should change the kids names to prevent trouble later in life. Imagine trying to get into college or hired for a job if your name is "Adolf Hitler." Really they shouldn't have ever let them give such names.

Pelosi expects SCOUS to vote 6-3 in support of Health Care Law
May 31st 2012, 22:06

Not that her opinion necessarily means anything but we should be hearing something soon. I just wish the public option was still in there, particularly as I'm in the midst of trying to get private health insurance.

Pelosi expects court to vote 6-3 in favor of Obama health care law

May 31, 2012, 1:31 p.m.

WASHINGTON -- As Washington awaits the Supreme Court's ruling on President Obama's healthcare law, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) said the Affordable Care Act will withstand the constitutional challenge before the court and be upheld.

"I know the Constitution – this bill is ironclad," Pelosi said Thursday. "It is ironclad."

The nation's new healthcare law, a signature legislative achievement of Obama's first term, was signed into law in 2010, but immediately challenged by attorney generals from more than two dozen primarily Republican-led states. Joined by small businesses, they questioned the constitutionality of one of the law's central provisions: that all Americans must have health insurance by 2014.

Few political leaders in Washington have been willing to publicly wager on the outcome as the court considers the case, but Pelosi reiterated her belief that she expects the justices would rule 6-3 to uphold it.

"Nobody was frivolous with the Constitution and the health of the American people in writing the bill," she said. "That's where my confidence springs from: the merit of the bill and the nature of the Constitution. The makeup of the court -- well, we'll see."
