Irish (actually pan-European) Airline Ryanair is known for the ruthless cost cutting, and "Human Headline" status of it's CEO, Michael O'leary.
I predict it is in for BIG trouble.
As an example, to get a "Job" as a Pilot or Flight Attendent with Ryanair, you are forced to incorporatea company, with you as sole employee, and "Contract" your services to Ryanair.
tha advantage? Your "Company" is incorporated in Ireland, and thus only pays Irish Company tax. You may be based in Norway or France, but as you are an "Irish based Contractor", you pay none of the local Taxation or social charges- but then, or are you entitled to any local benefits.
This is increasingly getting the attention of Unions and Governmants across the continent.

Allegations are being made that it treats its staff like "slaves" having created hundreds of "shell" companies in Ireland and the UK to avoid tax across Europe and to force staff in to contracts that run roughshod over accepted norms. In Norway, Ryanair cabin crew and their Union, Paroc, have taken the airline to court to clarify their employment status in Norway and their contract conditions. |
