The Tea Party and the Remaking of Republican Conservatism | University of Oxford Podcasts - Audio and Video Lectures She describes her research into the teabagger movement.

Their name is derived from the Boston Tea Party, that famous rebellion against British rule of its North American colonies -- taxation without representation and all that.

She concludes that there are three parts of it: the rank-and-file members with their own organizations, the media cheerleaders like Fox News, and the big-moneybag organizations like those financed by the Koch brothers. She spent a lot of time researching and interviewing the rank-and-file ones, and she found that they were almost all over 45 and usually over 55, except for the occasional libertarian college student. They had a little bit more income and a little bit more education on average. They thought Social Security, Medicare, and the military OK, but they had a strong dislike of moochers and freeloaders, immigrants, and social engineers.
