Their name is derived from the Boston Tea Party, that famous rebellion against British rule of its North American colonies -- taxation without representation and all that. She concludes that there are three parts of it: the rank-and-file members with their own organizations, the media cheerleaders like Fox News, and the big-moneybag organizations like those financed by the Koch brothers. She spent a lot of time researching and interviewing the rank-and-file ones, and she found that they were almost all over 45 and usually over 55, except for the occasional libertarian college student. They had a little bit more income and a little bit more education on average. They thought Social Security, Medicare, and the military OK, but they had a strong dislike of moochers and freeloaders, immigrants, and social engineers.
